I had absolutely agreed (in my mind) not to do anything for my husband for our anniversary. You know low on funds and all. At the last minute (well two days before), I got this wild hair that maybe I could do something small.

“The Idea”

Something he can enjoy all day long. Well, in this case from 5 am to 7 pm. Every other hour of the day, he got to open a gift and enjoy a small treat.

“Application and Reasoning”

My items depended on my guy and his route to work,etc. For instance…
5 am – stop on way to work and buy a overpriced coffee – its a treat. (Starbucks gift card)
7 am – small bag of candy for an after breakfast treat.
9 am – dose of caffeine. Favorite soda.
11 am – small bag of candy. We always want dessert before lunch right?
1 pm – I was thinking a hammer with a wood handle, this covers the wood part of the a fifth year anniversary. (Lowe’s gift card)
3 pm – His favorite after work drink. Chocolate milk. (Publix gift card)
5 pm – small bag of candy. After dinner treat.
7 pm – A good book to relax with. (Amazon gift card)

“The Best Part”

He loved it. He texted me every other hour with his exclamations about each gift. Letting me know when he got home how hard it was to wait on each gift. The smile on his face as he talked about it was the absolute best.

~to our inside joke this morning, I really do hope we have 50 more years together.

How often do you take a night off, without kids; just you and your husband. We normally try for once a month. When we do have a date night, we normally do dinner and a movie or just dinner. This last night out, my husband and I went all out. I had so much fun planning it (semi started planning it last November). We bought tickets to Les Miserables last year for a play that was in May of this year. As time came closer I pondered on what to wear and at first I considered going black tie, you know tuxedo and me in some fancy smancy sequined thing. While I am sure that would have been splendid and somewhat spectacular, it just wasn’t me. So, I started thinking of different era’s of clothing I loved. I have always been in love with the roaring 20′s flapper dresses to the victory curl hairstyle of the 40′s. As I considered my options, I ended up picking somewhat of the 40′s style crossed with a bit of pin-up girl look (a little sexy for the hubby). Once picking this idea, my outfit wasn’t too hard to put together, the difficulty came in trying to find something for Geek Adonis. After looking through pictures on the web, we came up with the idea of a sailors outfit. I mean who hasn’t seen the iconic photograph of the young man kissing his sweetheart in Times Square. Just in case you haven’t – here it is…

We didn’t want to do exactly as they did, but in any case here is our version…

After the big smack, we preceded to a yummy dinner at Carraba’s and then to Les Miserables…

It was a wonderful night!

My dear Geek Adonis asked what I wanted for Mother’s Day! He gave me everything I wanted and more. He started out my day with some oh so yummy Lemon Blueberry Pancakes and BACON! (cause if you do not know yet, I have an affinity for bacon) I am afraid I do not have a picture of the pancakes, but I can give you the recipe to try. The sweetness of the blueberries and maple syrup together with the tangyness of the lemon was just sublime.

Lemon Blueberry Pancakes

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup Cake Flour
1 Tablespoon (additional) Cake Flour
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 Tablespoon (heaping) Baking Powder
3 Tablespoons Sugar
1 1/2 cup Evaporated Milk (more if needed)
1 Whole Lemon (more if needed)
1 Whole Large Egg
1 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
2 Tablespoons Butter, Melted
Zest from 1 Lemon
1 cup Heaping Blueberries
Extra Butter
Maple or Pancake Syrup

Preparation Instructions

Heat heavy skillet or grill over medium low heat. In a medium bowl, mix flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, mix evaporated milk, juice of 1 lemon (more if lemon isn’t very juicy), and lemon zest. Allow to sit for five minutes, then add egg,
vanilla, and melted butter. Mix to combine.
Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients. Stir gently to combine. Splash in more evaporated milk if mixture is overly thick. Stir in blueberries. Again, check to make sure mixture isn’t overly thick.
Melt butter in heated skillet. Drop batter by 1/4 cup measures and fry pancakes on both sides until golden.
Serve with softened butter and warm syrup.

We went to Stones River National Battlefield and spent the day picnicking and frolicking. It was an absolutely gorgeous sunny day outside and we found a perfect place to lay out our blanket under some huge sweetgum trees.

We enjoyed a yummy lunch of salami, cheeses, olives, nuts, salad, pimiento cheese sandwiches, pretzels w/ mustard, and a small smorgasboard of drinks.

After our picnic…

no worries though the glider plummeted and all brothers got to stand proud that day. After the small dog fight, we…

rested and came in and refilled with root beer and ginger ale. (Notice, mommy and young smiley all the while have been resting on the blanket). Refreshed, we are off to climb…

rocks. As with all picnic’s there were an abundance of bugs…

including cicada exoskeleton’s. Meanwhile, back at the blanket…

Geek Adonis and Smiley called Nana to wish her Happy Mother’s Day too! After a glorious day at the battlefield Daddy decided we all needed one more treat.

Oh my, I must tell you this is one of my favorites places to go now! If you have never been to a Sweet CeCe’s I am so so sorry. They have a variety of frozen yogurts that you first choose from and then, you get to pick from crazy topping like captain crunch and gum balls to chunks of cheese cake or fresh strawberries. Oh, and speaking of the gum balls, that was one of the topping Miss Sugar Plum Fairy chose, so be careful of this happening …

This was the end of my perfect Mother’s Day! My sweet husband gave me just the experience with my family that I wanted. Thank you my love! I hope all of you other mamas out there had a wonderful mother’s day as well.
